0W-30 oil

Most used in the market is a 5W30 of 5W40 engine oil. 0W-30 oil is an oil that is thinner at cold temperatures. Some products of Mobil have a 0W30 viscosity like Mobil Super 3000 Formula P 0W30 and the Mobil 1 ESP 0W30.
Why 0W-30 oil
0W-30 oil has a viscosity of approximately 68 centistokes at 40 degrees Celsius. For example, 0W20 has a viscosity of approximately 46.

This product usually has a higher viscosityindex than a 5W30 engine oil. Because of the fact that the cold temparature viscosity is lower, and the high temperature viscosity is the same as a 5W30. Why than choose for a 0W30? PSA group made the choice for this product based on fuel economy. This is possible due to the fact of the higher viscosity index.

Lately Ford introduced the F 0W30 for certain Ford models. As well Volvo has the VC 0W30 product for many years now.
Applicability of 0W30
Most of the time the applicability is based on the prescriptions of the car manufacturers. So if BMW will prescribe a 0W-30 oil (which is the idea for a long time now), we will use a 0W30 in BMW models. Not so far at this moment.

As said, at this moment we have a few products like the P 0W30 for Peugeot, the F 0W30 for Ford and the VC 0W30 for Volvo.

Furthermore of course we have Mobil 1 products like the Mobil 1 ESP LV 0W30 and the Mobil 1 ESP 0W30.
